AP Hetalia Ireland 1916 by Tabikat AP Hetalia Ireland 1916 by Tabikat
Ireland, 1916, Irish Volunteer Uniform and flag during the Easter Rising.

First off, I just want to say I just wanted to draw the Uniform as I really liked that uniform in particular.

My hand started cramping up half-way through this thus why the uniform looks kind of icky, also, I hate drawing hats. The only thing I like about this is the eyes and the badge on the hat, I see way too many problems with this to count.

Anyway, the Easter Rising is a lot to talk about so I'll keep this one short, in 1916 during Easter week, Patrick Pearse and the Volunteers, along with James Connolly and the Irish Citizen Army, gathered together and started taking over various buildings only in Dublin. At first they met with little British resistance as the British intelligence failed at the time, however as the week progressed, more and more British soliders came into Ireland and a lot of Irish citizens would lose their lives. The Easter Rising planned by the Irish Republican Brotherhood was virtually confined to Dublin. This was the opening act of the Irish War for Independence.

The Easter Rising was not supported by public opinion in Ireland, nevertheless it happened, and the turmoil caused eventually led to the Irish War of Independence, this was a guerrilla war, in which Irish rebels fought with British government forces. It took place from about 21 January, 1919 to 11 July, 1921.

This is actually my favorite Irish army uniform and I'm going to draw it again by hand when I can.

Erin belongs to me

He's Ireland's son since North Ireland became a separate part when Ireland split from the UK. (N.I is still part of the UK) People will comment about Ulster but that was just apart of Ireland (Eire) until later. Ireland became the Republic of Ireland after so people refer to the whole Isle as Ireland but the parts R.O.I and N.I.

Yes, unfortunately research can only go so far though I am open to corrections and additions if one has them. I wish more books and articles were avaliable to us here for the history of Ireland. Also, this is kind of old and I haven't checked back on it so I might have fixed some, anyway, thank you very much.

I love Erin, you draw him so wonderfully and the eyes are simply wonderful too, hurhur ~ And for some reason I have always loved hats like that, I don't know why but I just do xD Hetalia is wonderful since you get to know about countries' history, and that's why OC-tans are wonderful :3

Why I use the word "wonderful" so much? It's like "fabulous!" for Maximillion Galactica (have you played any Phoenix Wright games? If you haven't, I recommend them, they're... wonderful xD)

Although Ludwig's training outfit is pretty sexy too XD I've turned into a uniform fetish now thanks to Hetalia and everyone on Tegaki.

Hi, sorry if this comes across as impolite but since I'm a total stickler for historical accuracy about my own country--

The Easter Rising was not organised, not everyone had a uniform, and there was not a case of a united Irish rebellion; the fact is that it only happened in Dublin since it failed to really kick off in the other intended areas.

It wasn't an army really, it was a bunch of IRB members combined with the ICA under the leadership of Patrick Pearse, a poet with the idea of blood sacrifice since the idea of a proper revolution was out of the question due to everything more or less going wrong.

There was no glorious rebellion or revolution that followed, nothing like that, it was a guerrilla war waged on British troops still stationed in Ireland which led (eventually) to the Anglo-Irish Treaty.

Have you ever seen Hetalia? That's what my version of Ireland is suppose to be to. Hetalia has everyone being a little stereotypical but actually fully explains their histories and really makes learning fun but there's no Ireland (not yet anyway) so I wanted Ireland in there. So Ireland's looks are pretty stereotypical and some actions (like social drinking, being extremely proud and passionate, those stereotypes), but I want to also incorporate the real Ireland and teach everyone (especially with so many people not knowing one thing about it! Also, I have a lot of heritage there, so learning about it has been fun for me) what its really about, its not just a country out in the ocean and its certainly not part of the UK anymore (that is still the misconception today).

I'm trying to incorporate the smart, logical sense that Ireland actually has (the list of inventions and acheivements from Irish history is vast and well known but most people don't know they're from Ireland or Irish people) as well as its history under England and after, which is a little off and on, but I'm trying to get it right. Also, I want to incorporate a bit of the modern Ireland who has quite a few bilateral relations with other countries (I was amazed at the list) as well as a very interesting republic and political stand point to the world (it definitely is quite different than other countries), as well as its rich Celtic past.

My friend went on a Nations poll and America and Ireland are top of the list for the most patrotic countries.

sorry for the long post, anyway, thanks again for the information and I will stay faithful, but its also for Hetalia so there will be a lot of humor and crack as well.

Mind you I'm not too much of a fan of Hetalia myself (then again I'm not exactly an manga/anime person anymore...though I know Hetalia started as a webcomic, lol), but I'm glad that there is actually an advocacy for an Ireland-tan since there isn't one currently in the actual thing. I only really hear about it from a few friends who do love it a bit too much :P

Broadening the view of Ireland through Hetalia is totally awesome by me though :3

The history of England and Ireland is a very long and bloody one though, that's about 900 years of killing each other you're talking about there x___x! Summarising it will be difficult but hey I think you can do it :D! There is a bit of a focus on the relations between these nations in terms of Ireland's foreign relations though, which kind of speaks for itself.

Thanks again, and mind you, I do like your faithful recreation of the Irish Republic flag 8D

The flag and the cap badge took me the longest because I was actually looking at photos to make them exact, even trying to get the exact color (which is horrible on tegaki to do XD).

Ireland and England seem to have an okay relationship now (this also coming from another artist I know who lives in Ireland as well) and they're ambiacle towards each other, which when I translated it, actually made Ireland a kind of forgiving character, one who moves forward but never forgets basically. Right now there are people who watch me who really like EnglandXIreland (which kind of makes me go,"wait..what?"), but unforunately if Ireland was canon, I could see this happening anyway (a lot more than it should, lol). Ireland's relations seem to be strongest with England, Canada, and America when I was reading over the foreign relations article, he also seems to do well with Russia, China, and a couple other countries on the list then there's all the others (Ireland seems to be friends with half the world XD).

I guess if I had to say what Ireland's relations stand point would be on the main countries

England- confusing, they'll fight one minute yet act ambicle the next, however, they are not brothers or related in any manner (Ireland is older than England (the celts were there before the anglo-saxons) and his history and past is very different than England's, it was only during the years England ruled that England's culture started to become part of Ireland's)

America- friends (somehow I see Ireland portraying an uncle type relationship to America and Canada)
Canada- friends (same as America)
Russia- friends (amazingly, though they hated each other in the past, Ireland and Russia's bilateral relations actually strengthed after the cold war)
China- friends (there's a lot to type for this, but they get along pretty well)
France- friends (actually was involved with france when still under English rule (the enemy of my enemy is my friend))
Germany- friends (though not a bilateral relation, germany and ireland have been involved in each other's business over history)
Italy- friends (bilateral relation)
Japan- friends (bilateral relation)

there are a lot more to that list which would make this comment a journal. XD

Himuraya actually does a good job of balancing out the funny stereotypes and keeping the personality of the people/nation to what it should be. Which is why if Ireland was in there, I would like to see how much research he does considering all the stuff I had to read just to get the Ireland I have now. XD I'll use America for example, he's hyper, optomistic, doesn't know where other countries are on the map, eats hamburgers (McDonald's) all the time and is usually bickering with his older brother England and making fun of France, playing video games with Japan, so on and so forth. However, America has a strong sense of justice and freedom, he jumps head first into a fight in order to ensure what is morally right, yet he has no real social graces and unfortunately can insult other countries without knowing he's being rude. He also is sentimental and while he bickers with England a lot, still holds respect for him and feelings for his brother, though he'll never admit it.

There are some parts I am going to have to summarize, like the Great Faminin which would be too difficult and not do the whole thing justice to be put in a comic strip, however I also like having tragedy in my comics, so I'll explain it, but that whole situation would be a book in itself and a lot of explaining to do. I agree though, Ireland has such a rich past, everyone should know!

sorry for the long comment, I get too excited when talking about history and stuff. XD

I do love my history, and I'm actually really happy that you're putting so much research into this! Really though lol. Today, yes, Ireland and England generally have good relations because of the efforts put into creating a lasting peace in Northern Ireland (the Troubles). I just tend to know a pocket of Irish folk who are still wayyyy too nationalist for their own good and still hate the UK for no real reason now x____O;; but ignore them, they're silly :P.

Throughout history, yes France have wanted to use Ireland as a gate to the UK (mind you, any time they did it failed rather spectacularly since the fates were against them lol). Could be another dimension to their relation, idk.

Eeeeh, the Great Famine >>; that and the Civil War are pretty touchy subjects in Ireland. Be cautious when using that, that's all I can really say about it. I appreciate that you want to tell people, though. :3

Yea, I know they are by how the conversations usually go about them. Its why I'm not going to really get too deep into them (as Hetalia seems to have bypassed the whole Holocaust thing itself, I figured I might as well keep a light touch on those subjects and nothing more).

France, I think, will gladly be with anyone (the character in Hetalia, hahahaha), so Ireland would be on that long list.

Yea, someone was telling me about N.I, that half the population wants to go back to Ireland and the other half wants to stay with Britain, and basically a civil war going on there right now, is the gist of what I got, you can correct me if I'm wrong. North Ireland translated to me as the child of Ireland and England (hetalia form again) who right now is a teenager and isn't sure who he wants to live with, not trivalizing the situation at all mind you, but trying to make it something people can kind of compare the situation with. (personification wise) I hear its going rough though over in NI and I hope it gets sorted out soon. D=

Although translating NI into Ireland and England's kid kind of throws my no irelandXengland stuff out the window *facepalm*

No, you're not being impolite at all, I'd rather get facts, I've been reading a lot of books and articles and forums to try to stay that way. This picture was kind of just, I just wanted to draw the uniform actually because I liked it, that was the point of this picture. I just started getting into the chapters of the Easter rising, so your information was helpful. So the Irish Rebellion was just a guerrilla war? They made it sound like more of a war in one of the books, so maybe that's where the confusion came from. It makes sense though. I like the Irish history because its so complex yet at the same time a lot more research goes into it for it.

I kind of assumed not everyone had a uniform due to the pictures and photographs I've seen, I'll change my description as I wasn't actually going to explain it on this picture, rather I'm writing up a story script explaining all the events in a better manner, that way I can fully explain it.

Thank you for your information
